General Game Tips
- Remember your ABCs: Always Be Casting
- Players should weave no more than two (2) oGCDs every GCD.
- Read your tooltips.
- A flashing red enemy castbar can be interrupted with tank's Interject and physical ranged's Head Graze.
- In the settings, you can separate enemy cast bars from their HP. Place it somewhere easy to see.
Rotation Practice
- To quickly reset cooldowns, go into any duty (solo) then hop out.
- Solo: to test your ability to deal with mechanics and execute your rotation, hop into a (max level!) Duty Support or Trust duty.
- Party: same thing but with real players.
- Watch an opener video. However, be wary that some jobs do change within an expansion, so check the date and patch of the video.
- If you use plugins, I suggest Opener Creator (it's a Dalamud default).
- If you want to use an ACT overlay which records your Actions and relays them to you in real-time: FFXIV Opener Overlay
- I suggest looking at your hotbars to ensure the Action placement makes sense to *you*. Redo them if you have to.
- Something easily overlooked is understanding what the Actions actually do. If you just follow an opener guide, you're just copying the answer. Look into why you're pressing this or that Action. Realizing something like, "I use [Action #1] because by the time [Action #2] is about to end, [Action #1] will be off cooldown", or whatever. This can be helpful when you're using Actions outside of the 2-min burst.
- If there are cooldowns you like to keep track of, keep a separate large hotbar somewhere easy to see.
- Don't be afraid to ask for help!
